The Mailcoach Pub leads the way, saving circa £3,500 on electricity bills per annum, showing landlords how easy it can be to reduce a pubs energy spend…
As energy prices soar across the UK, Pub owners are feeling the strain, with increasing concerns over both the cost of energy bills and the amount that is consumed during trading hours. There are various steps that can be taken to reduce the level of energy consumption in pubs, however many fear that the process requires large amounts of investment, which may affect finances considerably. This pre-conception can be quite off-putting to landlords, however minor behavioural changes such as turning equipment off when not in use and not leaving tech on standby, can make a substantial impact on energy reduction, before any installations or equipment replacements are made. Additionally, it is not necessarily front-of-house equipment that consumes the most energy, often back-of-house lighting, heating and electricity may generate the most energy spend for a pub.
Compliance365 have recently been working with the Mailcoach Pub in Northampton, on behalf of The Bermondsey Pub Company, showing ways in which the pub can reduce their energy consumption. The Pub previously used Tungsten & CFL Lighting throughout the building, which was using copious amounts of energy to generate light. We replaced the lighting to LED’s, which cost just under £3,000 to install, in addition to installing a Weather Optimiser to the boiler to reduce the amount of heat that is wasted. By swapping the lighting, the ambience and atmosphere was not compensated, as the lights still retain the look and feel of the pub to create a welcoming environment for customers. The total cost for the installations we made, was £4,160, which held a payback period of 9 months, therefore by February 2017, a return on investment will be achieved, and the pub has saved circa £3,500 on electricity alone per annum. We are also providing workshops with the landlord, delivering tips on how to save energy by making behavioural changes in their daily routine, saving further amounts of energy. Within the next few months, we are going to start this procedure with the rest of The Bermondsey Pub Company’s estate, with a target to save 20% off their energy bills in the future.
This is a leading example of how easy it is to reduce energy consumption within the pub sector, without having to invest large amounts of time and money. Compliance365 look forward to working with more pubs in the future, helping them to achieve their energy reduction goals.
