ESOS saves small firms money

ESOS saves small firms money

More than half of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who undertook an Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) audit made financial savings

New research conducted by the Government has found that two-thirds of businesses who carried out an ESOS audit saved in excess £200 in the last year alone.

The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme is a UK legislation which mandates nearly 10,000 organisations in the UK to audit their estates to establish energy improvements by recording and reporting energy data.

Only 9% of SMEs said they undertook an ESOS audit, compared to 69% of larger companies who completed an audit.

Out of the SMEs who undertook an energy audit, four in five took action as a result with two-thirds implementing an energy efficiency measure.

Energy efficient lighting was the most commonly implemented measure with 58% of people upgrading their lighting, followed by 50% of people upgrading their heating systems.
