Heat Decarbonisation Plans

Heat Decarbonisation Plans

A Heat Decarbonisation Plan (HDP) outlines how a business is planning to reduce their reliance on Fossil Fuelled heating systems through the installation of low carbon alternatives such as Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps. A HDP is intended to assist organisations work towards their NetZero Carbon Targets.

What Is Decarbonisation?

Decarbonisation refers to the process of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that has resulted from human activity in the atmosphere. With the Government setting a UK Wide objective of achieving NetZero by 2050 there is a requirement to, eventually, eliminate our carbon dioxide emissions.

To achieve decarbonisation, there is a need to rethink how energy is produced and consumed and undertake a fundamental switch to renewables and low carbon energy sources. Realistically, achieving NetZero requires a switch to clean energy sources and shifting from fossil fuels to electricity.

5 Reasons for developing a Heat Decarbonisation Plan:

1. With the current increasing costs in utilities, it can identify opportunities to make substantial savings on energy bills

2. Improve your Organisations Sustainability

3. Help focus and make progress towards NetZero Targets

4. Improve your success rate when applying for grant funding such as the Salix PSDS fund

5. Great for reputation amongst stakeholders

What is the Low Carbon Skills Fund?

BEIS and Salix have launched Phase 3 of the Low Carbon Skills Fund, having made up to £14m available, and applications to this fund closed on Wednesday 15th June. If you have made an application (and are successful when awards are made in July/August) we can provide a competitive quote to support you in the delivery of your site audits and Heat Decarbonisation Plan so you can gain maximum insight into your estate from the grant funding.

How does this impact the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme?

Salix have suggested that Phase 3 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) will be opening in September, and a heat decarbonisation plan developed in partnership with Compliance365 would provide a solid foundation for applying for future PSDS funding. Future rounds of PSDS funding between 2022/23 and 2024/25 are projected to amount to £1.425 billion.
