Scotland release first Energy Strategy

Setting themselves a target of producing at least half of their energy from renewable sources by 2030, Scotland announce their first official Energy Strategy.

The Scottish Government have publicised their first Energy Strategy outlining a goal to enhance national energy productivity by at least 30% by 2030.

To achieve these targets, the Scottish Government said they will invest around £80 million in the energy sector, with 75% of this spent on low carbon innovation, and 25% to be invested in energy infrastructure.

Paul Wheelhouse, Scottish Business Energy and Innovation Minister said:

“This strategy recognises and builds on our achievements to date and on Scotland’s capacity for innovation. We want to make sure, within the scope of our devolved powers, good stewardship of Scotland’s energy sector – something we have called the UK Government to step up to for years.”

Scotland is already on track for a record year of renewable generation, with its clean output for the first three quarters of 2017 being 19% greater than the same period in 2016!
