Sky achieve major reduction in carbon emissions

Since 2008, Sky have reduced their carbon emissions by almost half, by investing in the energy efficiency of their buildings.

According to Sky’s annual sustainability report, since 2008 they have achieved a 47% reduction in carbon intensity across the UK and Ireland.

In the last year alone, their emissions have decreased by 8.5% to 9.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per million pounds of revenue.

The report claims the reduction is due to their continued investment in the energy efficiency of their buildings and on-site renewable energy, which has enabled the company to accomplish half of their 2020 environmental targets three years early.

In their report Sky commented:

“We remain committed to using 100 per cent renewable energy in our operations and this is reflected in our membership of RE100. We have invested in photovoltaic cells to harness solar energy for our buildings, on-site wind turbines and combined cooling heat and power unit (CCHP). We continue to offset any unavoidable emissions to maintain our carbon neutral status.”
